Wombato is only as good as the people and places that make it. A few simple rules keep every listing genuinely helpful instead of misleading. No red tape, just the practical stuff.
Three things we care about.
All of these rules come down to three things: real places, honest information and respect for people and nature. The rest is detail.
This is not about bureaucracy. It is about making sure that anyone who drives to a place based on your listing finds exactly what you promised and gets back safely. That is it. Below is what that means in practice.
Respect the person on the other side.
Behind every username is someone who set out for the same place as you. Treat them the way you would want to be treated on the trail.
- Welcome newcomers and help when someone asks. Everyone posted their first listing once.
- Criticise the point, not the person. You can disagree with an opinion without attacking who wrote it.
- Zero room for insults, harassment and discrimination. That is not a matter of opinion, it is the condition for being here.
Add the truth, not guesses.
Someone will plan a trip based on your listing. Bad information is not a typo, it is someone's wasted day or a real danger.
Describe what you know
- Give honest details: road condition, signal, water access, legality.
- What you do not know, do not guess. Better to mark it "unverified" than mislead someone.
- Do not oversell amenities or access. Disappointment on site comes back to you in the reviews anyway.
Keep the quality up
- Recent photos that actually show the place, not just a pretty sunset.
- The right categories and tags, so others can even find it.
- No spam, duplicates or off-topic content.
Respect the law and other people's property.
Wild camping and trespassing are two different things. Wombato shows one, not the other.
- Add places where camping is legal or in a gray area, with the status clearly marked.
- Respect private property and no-entry signs. "Nobody caught me" is not the same as "allowed".
- Do not publish places that require breaking the law or entering without permission.
Legal, gray area or forbidden shows on every place page. Not sure? Mark it as a gray area, not as legal.
Some places you protect, not promote.
Not every beautiful place can take a crowd. Sometimes the best thing you can do is keep the location to yourself.
- Do not publish places that would suffer from heavy traffic: nesting grounds, delicate ecosystems, private gems.
- If a place looks fragile, think twice before you drop an exact pin.
- Responsible camping is part of the deal. Leave a place the way you would want to find it.

Lines we do not cross.
Most rules are common sense. These are non-negotiable.
- Hate speech, harassment, threats, discrimination.
- False or dangerously wrong information about a place.
- Places that require breaking the law or entering someone else's land.
- Exposing other people's data and private addresses, doxxing.
- Spam, covert advertising and commercial content without consent.
On hard lines we act right away. A serious or repeated breach ends the account. Illegal activity we report to the proper authorities.
Saw a violation? Report it.
The community keeps itself in check, but only when we get the signal. Reporting takes a moment and is discreet.
- Use the report button on the place, review or profile.
- Write briefly what is wrong. Specifics help us act faster.
- We check every report and usually act within 24 to 48 hours.
- You get told what happened with your report.
A scale of response, not an automatic ban.
Not every slip ends the account. We respond in proportion to what happened and whether it repeats.
- First, minor breach: a warning and a reminder of the rules.
- Repeated: a temporary suspension of posting and commenting.
- Serious or persistent: permanent closure of the account.
- Illegal activity: a report to the proper authorities.

These rules are not here to restrict you. They are here so the next person finds a place the way you promised it, and gets back in one piece. That is all the philosophy in them.
