Deleting your Wombato account
Last updated: September 1, 2026
Wombato is an interactive camping and outdoor map, available on the web and as a mobile app (com.wombato.app). This page explains how to delete your account, what we erase together with it, and what stays in the service without your name on it. You can do it yourself in a few taps, or write to us if you can no longer sign in.
1. Deleting your account in the app
Open Settings, go to Privacy and data, and choose Delete account. You confirm with your password and the deletion runs straight away. We send a confirmation to your email address once it is done.
The account cannot be restored afterwards. If you want to keep a copy of your data, request the export first: it sits in the same Privacy and data section.
The website and the mobile app share one account, so deleting it in either place deletes it everywhere.
2. If you can no longer sign in
Write to support@wombato.com from the address the account uses and ask us to delete it. We confirm that the request comes from the account holder before we act on it, and we may ask about details only you would know.
If you have lost access to that mailbox as well, write from any address and describe the account. We will tell you what we need in order to confirm your identity.
3. What we erase
- Your profile and account details, including email address and password.
- Active sessions, linked sign-in methods and recognised devices.
- Notifications, notification settings and push registrations.
- Saved places, bookmarks, check-ins and your visited history.
- Your browsing history in the service: which places and posts you opened.
- Photos and other media you uploaded to your profile, posts, reviews and comments, together with the underlying files.
- Photos attached to place drafts you never published.
- Poll votes, private notes and the tags you follow.
- Your newsletter subscription and your analytics profile.
4. What stays, without your name on it
Places, reviews and posts you published stay in the service as a community resource. Other travellers rely on them, and they carry other people's photos, reviews and check-ins. Their authorship is anonymised the moment the account is deleted, so nothing links them back to you.
The Privacy Policy describes the same rule in its section on retention periods.
5. What we have to keep by law
A short list of records survives deletion because the law requires it. None of it stays linked to your identity:
- Moderation and audit records, for as long as the Digital Services Act and the defence of legal claims require (Art. 17(3)(e) GDPR).
- Hashed identifiers on the ban list, which stop banned accounts from coming back. The pointer to your account is removed and the hash itself carries no personal data.
- Material secured as evidence in a child-safety report, which we are legally obliged to preserve.
- Anonymous view counters, stored per place as a daily total with no user identity, IP address or device data attached.
6. When deletion is on hold, and how to reach us
An account under moderation review cannot be deleted until the review closes, and the app says so when you try. Write to support@wombato.com and we will confirm as soon as the account is free to delete.
