Map data sources
The map is assembled from several independent services. Aerial imagery comes from national mapping agencies wherever they publish it openly, and from a global provider everywhere else. The drawn map is built on OpenStreetMap.
Aerial imagery
A national service is used wherever it covers the view, because it is sharper and more recent than any global mosaic. Outside those areas the global layer shows through.

Drawn map
Geometry, names and contours behind the illustrated map.
3D terrain
Terrain Tiles (AWS Open Data, from the Mapzen Joerd project) drive the hillshading and the tilted 3D view.
The elevation model combines several public surveys, among them SRTM (NASA), EU-DEM (European Environment Agency) and GMTED (USGS). Full attribution and source list
Enrichment data
Place widgets (weather, hazards, geology, wildlife and more) draw on external open datasets. Each one is credited here with its exact required attribution.
