Several hiking routes branch out from the area, and the medieval fortress of Wachsenburg - one of the Drei Gleichen trio of castles - sits just above, its walls visible through the trees if you climb a little way up. The surrounding woodland holds goldfinches, magpies and warblers; on clearer nights you can pick out stars well enough to navigate by them.
