The forest over the Beke valley
About this place
The Waldparkplatz in Altenbeken is a place among the trees where you can settle down peacefully and have phone reception. You can get here by car or off-road vehicle - the parking is available for vehicles. From here, beautiful hikes with views of the surrounding area begin. The area attracts birds - you will hear blackbirds, starlings, tits, and robins. In the forest and fields around, nightingales, skylarks, and quails also nest. Not far away, just a few hundred meters from here, stands the Altenbeken Viaduct - an impressive stone railway bridge with 24 arches, spanning the Beke valley. It is one of the oldest and longest limestone viaducts in Europe, a witness to the beginnings of railways in Germany. You are at an altitude of about 257 meters above sea level, in a landscape of late Cretaceous mudstones and sedimentary rocks. The night sky here is quite dark - the stars are clearly visible.
