Fork above Smerek

Vanlife Smerek, Subcarpathian Voivodeship, Poland Avatar: mathelusz mathelusz

About this place

Smerek is located at an altitude of 623 meters in the Western Bieszczady Mountains, within the state forests. The area is paved, accessible for campers, cars, and motorcycles - you can drive directly here. It's also easy to reach on foot. Open fires are prohibited here - you cannot set up a campfire. However, you can expect silence and a dark sky - conditions for stargazing are very good here. In the area, you will hear forest birds: woodpeckers, owls, and the thrush. Bears appear here with moderate frequency, so be cautious and store food safely. A stream flows on the other side of the area. Not far away, just a few hundred meters from here, is the Nasiczniańska Pass - a crossing between the former ridge of the Caryńska Glade, surrounded by a large clearing. This place bears traces of history - both neighboring Rusyn villages were displaced after the war. Cell phone signal is weak here, but available. If needed, you can contact the Bieszczady Mountain Rescue Service (GOPR).
